To the mama who didn’t get to brush her hair this morning...

I get it. The pull on your heart to give everyone and everything your attention.

The more you give in one area of your life, the more you have to pull back in another. Why does there have to be a set number of hours given in a day? We need more!

My husband and I took our kids to dinner at a restaurant down the street from our house. It was late and we needed something convenient. Our son, who recently turned three, sat in the booth next to my husband. I sat across from them holding our daughter.

My son was just under a year. He was playing near my husband across the room from me. My husband could tell that my spirit was wresting on the inside.

“What’s wrong babe?” he asked.

I sighed. I wanted to explain how I was feeling, but I didn’t know how. Did I even understand this emotional chaos churning inside? I shook my head side to side motioning a burden of disappointment.

You have the incredible opportunity to be an example of God’s love for your children through the way you interact with others, especially how you interact with your spouse. Your children watch you all throughout the day and they witness your character through your expressions and actions.

When you pray.

When you forgive.

When you go out of your way to serve with a humble heart.

When you give generously.

When you extend grace.

When you are kind.

Parenting still feels like a new territory for my husband and me. We are in a continuous state of learning how to fulfill our roles as husband and wife, which now includes being parents. As we enter into different seasons with our children’s growth we encounter new challenges that force us to address how we want to train up our children.

When I became a wife at 21 I had many things to learn as I embraced this new role. One of the areas I was challenged to grow in was my understanding of intimacy. I had always defined intimacy as something physical. Whenever I heard the word, I automatically assumed “sex” as the only way to be intimate.

From day one of my marriage, sexual intimacy was our greatest struggle.
