Jesus is the Star
Do you know who Valentin Haüy was?
He founded the school for the blind in Paris that Louis Braille attended and later worked. The idea was born after he witnessed a group of blind people being publicly humiliated. He made a vow to give them a better life. It wasn’t for himself, or even his own family. He wanted to help strangers.
Towards the end of his life, the school hosted a day of festivities in Haüy’s honor. During his address to the students, he gave all the glory to God.
“Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” – Matthew 2:1-2
The wise men saw His star when it rose, and went to worship Him.
The wise men left immediately to seek Him.
The star led them right to Him.
They desired to worship the Messiah.
But things are different now, aren’t they? Jesus no longer walks among us and there is no star to follow, right?
Of course, there is! When Jesus ascended, He left everything in the capable hands of His disciples. By the power of the Holy Spirit, they began to build His church. It has been passed down through all generations, to us. That’s right, all the way to this time and this place – to you and me!
“Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life.” – Philippians 2:14-15
Children of God can shine like stars for Jesus.
“Live such good lives among the pagans that, though they accuse you of doing wrong, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day he visits us.” – 1 Peter 2:12
How do we live such good lives?
Let Jesus be the star.
Is He the star of my heart and mind?
Is He the star of my marriage and family?
Is He the star of my work and ministry?
Is He Lord of my life?
Am I giving Jesus all the glory?
Like Valentin Haüy, when Jesus is the star of our lives, His light reflects through us, and others are given the opportunity to seek Him, find Him, and worship Him as we point them to Him. And that is how we can truly love others, by introducing them to the awesome love and light of Jesus Christ, so they can experience it for themselves.
This Christmas, let’s give Jesus His rightful place as the star of it all, and let His light shine bright in a world that so desperately needs the Prince of Peace.
This little light of mine, I’m going to let it shine.
Let it shine, let it shine, let it shine!
Merry Christmas sweet sisters.
XO, Heidi
This is one of my favorite Christmas songs for mamas and their little ones. A precious reminder to seek Jesus, and to help others do the same, and it makes me cry every single time I watch it! Enjoy!
