You Don't Need to Carry the Weight of the World

You Don't Need to Carry the Weight of the World

Heavy. Can you feel it? The weight of plans, responsibilities, expectations, failures, bad news, no news, or too much news. Sometimes it all just feels heavy. Too heavy to bear. I’m not strong enough to carry all the heavy this world has to offer. When I can no longer carry the heavy, there is only one thing left to do: lay it down at the foot of the cross.

When I am Weak, He is Strong

I am weak. I am human made up of weak flesh that fills my head with lies. Lies that lead me to believe I have to do it all; lies that convince me that if I struggle then I’m a failure; lies that push me to lean on myself rather than look to Christ and lies that put the focus on me.

But at the cross, Jesus changed everything. At the cross, Jesus took our burdens. At the cross, Jesus said, “It is finished.” Jesus lived the life we couldn’t, the life that bore all the heavy of this world. Jesus, in His abundant strength, took the heavy for us and it is the enemy who tries to give it back. Let us not fall for the trap of sin by carrying the burden that has already been carried.

Point to Christ

Let us not boast in our strength that isn’t even there. Instead, let us recognize our weakness and use it to point to Christ, the sufficient sovereign Savior who has all the strength in the world and invites us to lay our burdens at His feet.

2 Corinthians 12:9 tells us:

“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly of my weakness, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

This is a heavy time and place. This side of heaven always will be. But God sent His one and only Son to bear all the heavy of the world so that we could be free from the burden of sin.

Today, I pray you lay down the heavy burden you are trying in vain to carry. I pray that you will let your weakness point to the power of Christ in you.
